The unlock button shuts down the alarm. When the relay fails or has issues it can cause problems with the operation of the door locks. They are disconnected from the system when the lock is in the locked position which ensures that the door cannot be opened either from the inside or outside of the car without it specifically having been unlocked. Each door shall be equipped with at least one locking device which when engaged shall prevent operation of the exterior door handle or other exterior latch release control and which has an operating means and a lock release engagement device located within the interior of the vehicle.

When the latch is down the outside door handle is disconnected from the mechanism so that it cannot be opened. When locking the door this way be careful not to leave the key inside the vehicle. To lock any door with the door lock knob from the outside press the door lock knob to the lock position and close the door holding the door handle in the open position is not required. When the actuator moves the latch up it connects the outside door handle to the opening mechanism.

If you only press the button once the driver s door is the only one to unlock. This does not operate the other door locks.

To unlock the door the body controller supplies power to the door lock actuator for a timed interval. Depending on your vehicle it may have physical buttons or it may be invisible until it is touched. Please note that the keypad may not work if you input your entry code too quickly.
